Fred and Wade Battle for the Top at Wequaquet

The 2008 tournament season kicked off with 13 anglers on an unseasonably warm day. Though it never quite got as warm or sunny as predicted it was calm and comfortable to start the morning. When the clouds cleared off at midday the wind picked up and blew steadily out of the west at about 15 mph. The clouds came back by 3p.m. and the weigh-in was actually a little brisk.

6 limits were tallied on the day, with first place going to Fred Naymie with a bag just shy of 12 pounds (11.92), anchored by a 3.57 smallmouth that lost out on lunker honors to Eric Femiak's 3.89 largemouth. Many thought this would be the time and place where the six-pound pool would fall but, interestingly, not a single fish over four pounds was weighed in. Fred was followed in second place by Wade and in third by newcomer to the club, nonboater Mark Defelice. Congratulations to all, and especially to Mark for such a strong showing in his first club event and as a nonboater.

Once again we all got to put the post-tournament feedbag on, thanks to Wade, who put out another fabulous tailgate spread of shish kabobs, corn on the cob and roasted cherry peppers. Thank you Wade!

A total of 45 fish were weighed, the overwhelming majority of them smallmouth, for a total weight of 87.09 pounds and an average weight of 1.94 lb. per fish.
