Singletary - Jun. 29, 2024
John Shpack captured his third event in a row for 2024 with a win at Singletary. Overall, it is his fourth consecutive win dating back to the last event of 2023.
It was a great day for fishing weather-wise, with overcast almost all day long, and a light wind from the southwest. Weather was unseasonably cool for most of the day, topping about 70 degrees until the sun came out at about 2 pm. After that it got warm and was in the low 80s by the time everyone was on the road home. The wind picked up to about 20 mph by that time as well. Water temperature was 77 degrees lakewide all day long.
Water was clear but there was little sign of grass. Only a few areas had any and it was long and stringy, fouling anything an angler could throw above or into it. However, few fish were caught from any other places, though other non-club anglers reported some big fish from very deep water. Club members primarily found fish in the 6-12 foot range, though many were small and under the 12-inch length limit. These shallower fish were very active and very aggressive, even if they were not monsters, so there was plenty of action to go around.
The biggest fish weighed was John’s 3.57 largemouth, part of his winning limit of 12.03 lbs. Nick Mulcahy took second place with 5 fish tallying 9.82 lbs. Now we’re off to figure out where our 2-day event will be next month. Stay tuned!
